Down the toboggan slide, Prades Pyrenees France
|
 |
Canyoning
Where the eastern Pyrenees mountains loose their altitude and plunge into the sea, the force of the water that carved out deep valleys over thousands of years, created passages perfectly sculpted and suitable for canyoning. There are over twenty of these canyon descents which vary in character, length and level of difficulty. Going down a water canyon is like taking a very refreshing bath, sliding along toboggans, walking through rock pools, and admiring the rock formations.
A newcomer to this sport needs to learn how to abseil, essential for negotiating passages when you can’t slide or jump. Your equipment includes a wet suit (perfect for sliding along nature’s water slides), and a harness.
You can, if you enjoy leaping into deep water pools, make jumps from 1 metre to 8 metres high, or avoid them if you don’t, the choice is yours. Above all, this activity enables you to discover and respect some of the most beautiful of aquatic environments in the mountains with its own specific geology, flora and fauna.
